Thanks for your follow-up. Yours and Joe's comments clarified why it would not be practical to try and include bond %s from non-bond fund types since these percentages could change enough to make the initial figures not static.
I've used Schwab's Portfolio analysis which does give me total percentages, so updating those should update the percentages. I was just curious if Forum members separated out bond %s held by non-bond funds.
: : If one decides on a Portfolio holding 40% bonds, then also has some Balanced, Blend or Large/Small Caps funds that also include bond percentages, should the percentage of bonds held by these funds be included in with the total percentage of the all-bond part of your portfolio?
: Hi Cathy,
: We have holdings similar to this mix.
: BUT, I may know on a given day from the
: last reporting period of what a fund held
: for the bond portion; but that does not
: mean that the percentage has not changed,
: or that the type of bond being held is not
: different from the last known report
: published by the fund.
: We have several dedicated HY/HY bond funds;
: but they are able (read prospectus) to do
: many internal changes in allocations of the
: percentage of and type of bonds held.
: We also have several diversified bond funds
: that may hold HY bonds.
: But, on any given day; I really could not
: calculate what our true % of HY bonds may
: be among our bond funds.
: You may only get close to a percentage of
: bonds being held.
: Some of the web sites you already saved
: and/or viewed should be to provide the %
: of bonds being held, what type and whether
: they are u.s. or other.
